Origin of Reiki
Reiki? The word is made up of two Japanese words:
‘Rei’, meaning Sacred, or Spiritual;
And ‘Ki’, meaning Energy.
Reiki is a natural, holistic way of natural healing. Waitaminute, what’s that ‘energy’ you’re talking about?
Yes, the energy that permeates the Universe, the sun, your beating heart, the breeze in the tree, the kangaroo napping through the heat of the day, me munching chocolate.
That kind of energy.
Reiki is a healing system that has only been around for the past century.
It was given to Mikao Usui, a Japanese teacher and healer, who was working super hard to improve his body, mind and spirit, to make himself and his community happier.
So he went up on a mountain around 1922 to fast, meditate, and pray. At the end of his retreat, he was given Reiki as a gift from… Well, from the Universe.
I can tell you (although I wasn’t there) that he was really excited to share Reiki with the world.
At first, he used his friends and family as guinea pigs, though! But in 1923, there was a big earthquake in Japan, and Usui-Sensei was out there to help and heal as many people as he could, offering his skills to the community.
People started talking about the wow-ing potential of Reiki — so much so that he had to expand his clinic, as the demand was increasing.
The Usui System of Natural Healing was born.
Usui Reiki Ryoho (or Usui Energy Healing Method) involves placing hands on, or over any part of the body of the client, that needs support or clearing.
During the treatment, I will put my hands in different positions for up to 5 minutes, depending on how much energy is needed.
If you come to an appointment with specific issues, I will work on targeted areas, following my knowledge and experience of Reiki, as well as my intuition.
